The Conduct  This is the first activity in the GTO test series. There will be two rounds of GD. The candidates will be made to sit in a circle, in the numerical sequence of their chest numbers. In the first round the GTO will give the group two topics and allow the group to choose any one for discussion. Once the group has chosen the topic, he will repeat the topic so that all are clear about the topic of discussion. Time allowed for discussions will be 20 minutes. The first round will normally be based on current affairs covered by the media/newspaper in the recent past. Thus, reading newspapers on a regular basis is very important. In the second round, the GTO will give only one social topic for discussion and the group will have no choice but to speak on that topic only. The GTO will also give three leads with each topic. Group Testing is very important part of SSB Interview process. Group Testing is based on the theory of Gestalt, wherein the Group Testing Officer- GTO looks at the candidates performing in a group, then gradually singles them out and gives a closer look and finally once again observes them perform in the group. There are a total of nine tasks/activities conducted by the GTO. These are divided into three distinct phases as described below.  Basic Series  In the basic series there are four tasks namely Group Discussion (GD) (two rounds), Group Planning Exercise (GPE), Progressive Group Task (PGT) and the Group Obstacle Race (GOR).
